Hello to all my lovely fashionistas! I am so glad to be back doing what I love in the new year. Hopefully, I got over my last case of the flu for the winter so I can continue to “Closet Comb” on my weekly schedule! I have been craving a more casual look because my holiday outfits were formal, for the most part. Honestly, I wish I could wear sparkly dresses everyday, but I had to snap back into reality! Of course, my casual ensembles always have to have a dose of glam, which is why I chose a beaded sweatshirt, pairing it with black Levi’s, booties, and a colorful clutch. I love this look because it makes a statement in a subtle way and leaves you feeling chic and cozy. Read on for details about this beaded beauty and the rest of the look!
As much as I appreciate minimalist dressing, I can’t help but fall in love with anything embellished. Needless to say, I naturally gravitated to this sweatshirt when I saw it on the racks. (It is actually on sale right now at Nordstrom!!!) I have to admit that I usually just wear sweatshirts when I have a date with the couch, but this one was meant to be seen. It is extremely comfortable because the sweatshirt material is undeniably soft, but the feminine and trendy bell sleeves, along with the gorgeous pearls, studs and black beads, make this top a stunner. I really love that type of contrast; a casual lounge piece mixed with fun details. The heather grey color is a classic, but the silhouette of the sleeves add drama and help to reinvent a favorite. You can wear this top with a bold metallic heel, booties (totally a bootie with a pearl heel!), and even sneakers. There are so many elements that make this so versatile that it can be styled in many different ways, depending on personal preference.
Before I start raving about my jeans, I wanted to mention my location for this shoot. The Ginger Snapped Bakery and Café in Punxsutawney was the perfect place to photograph my look because of their fun aesthetic. The exposed brick, artwork, and bright colors make for such a great atmosphere! I highly recommend popping in for sweet treats and yummy drinks. Obviously, I never wanted to put down my frozen hot chocolate because it makes a cameo in lots of shots (yes, it’s cold outside, but it is my fave drink)!
Now, onto these jeans! I am wearing Levi’s slim fit jeans in black, and I am very impressed with my first pair. I actually owned Levi’s t-shirts before I got my hands on a pair of iconic jeans. Sometimes it is overwhelming with all the different washes and styles, but it happened to work out perfectly when I found 1 pair of jeans in the color and size I needed for $20! Mine have lots of stretch, and they also hold their shape well. If you are a skinny jean lover, then these pants are for you because they hug your bod (but in all the right ways). The sweatshirt is slightly cropped, so I wanted pants that were high waisted. I went with black jeans to tie in the black beads and my booties, but try leggings, blue jeans, or simply just your favorite jeans in any style! Whatever makes you feel good is the best piece to pair!
My clutch looks like it belongs in New York City, but it was the perfect way to add color to my look. Yellow is having such a moment right now, though I don’t think I own a yellow article of clothing. It is a happy color, and I can get my fill of the trend with accessories like my Kate Spade TAXI clutch. I love how graphic and bold it is with its sense of quirkiness (on the back the colors are inverted and it says “off duty”). A clutch is a great way to carry all of your necessities without having to lug around a big purse. Also, if you aren’t ready to plunge into trends with bright prints and colors, clutches and other accessories allow you to keep up with the latest in the fashion world, yet still stay true to who you are. By the way, I have taken this clutch to NYC and I was still unsuccessful at hailing a taxi!
The booties I wore are my old faithful sock booties from Nine West. They frequently appear on the blog because they are simple, chic, and easy to run errands and sip frozen hot chocolate in!
