September Blues

Hi there, my fellow fashionistas! I know September has set in and summer is a distant memory, but that doesn’t mean fashion isn’t in full swing. Today, I chose to focus on my favorite color and create a monochromatic look, incorporating a variety of blue pieces. Monochromatic dressing is so easy because it is just layering different shades and textures of one hue, so you can’t go wrong. I stuck with a lot of royal blue in order to transition into fall, but I love the contrast of the lighter bag. My dress features bell sleeves, which are a huge trend right now because dramatic sleeves are all over the place, and a drop waist. I think it is a great piece for this time of the year because the material is thin enough for warmer days, but provides more coverage than a summer dress. This simple dress, coat, bag, and flats combination may be just one color, but there is nothing boring about it.

Okay, so let’s talk about this bag! I purchased this Kate Spade purse back in February and found that it honestly works in any season! It goes with the bright colors of spring and summer, and looks so refreshing paired with darker fall and winter outfits. I especially like it styled with this outfit because it compliments the look so well. I know that a black purse is essential, but don’t shy away from colorful bags because they can be equally versatile.

We can’t discuss fall fashion without mentioning coats. They are great for aesthetic purposes, and the layering is key to stylish warmth. This coat is rather lightweight, so now is the time to wear it; the weather, at least in western Pennsylvania where I live, is cooling down, but it’s not cold enough to break out the heavy winter coats. I love the juxtaposition of the smooth, flowy dress with the textured fabric of the coat, especially when the ruffle of the dress peaks out from under. Not to mention, the coat is just so feminine! The bow detail at the top is my favorite feature because it is such a pretty touch.
Finally, these shoes are such a statement! Another trend that is not going anywhere this season is velvet. But, really, velvet has always been timeless and I think it’s so cool that brands are not just sticking to clothes when it comes to this luxe material. Besides the color and texture, however, we cannot ignore that fact that that these shoes have pom pom laces! They are so fun and are such a conversation piece, as well. The pom poms definitely add a unique spin to a basic shoe!
Hopefully you all have fun creating monochromatic looks. They have been seen on the runways and in street style for seasons now, and create a bold impact. You can use a lot of what is in your closet to achieve this, just reach for the same color pieces! Let me know what color inspires your looks!
